Re:Wow! thats a very rare domestic turkey from a farmers yard! Look up Royal palm Turkey. You should know what your gonna shoot before you pull the trigger. sorry. |

Re: |

Re:I agree, if it's running around with wild turkeys, it's no longer a tame bird. Just out of curiosity, were you guys hunting specifically for this bird? or were you calling and it just happened to come in?

Re:happytrails, You joined yesterday just to give this guy Sht about his wife's turkey? Damn, you are one cool SOB. You must be top dog in your circle of friends I bet. Actually, I bet you and your friends stand in a circle quite a bit... If I see a white turkey running around with a bunch of wild ones I'll shoot it every time. If it's a tame one from a local turkey farmer well I guess he should have kept it penned up a little tighter. Cooler looking bird and I bet it tastes even more like a butterball if it's got a little domestic blood in it! |

Re:nice bird. I would have shot it in a heartbeat.

Re:Cool bird, Is it considered not a wild turkey? Then you wouldn't have to use your license on it. |
|
Re:I agree. I would not hesistate to put an arrow in one like that. That will be a cool mount. If it wasn't in a fenced in yard, it is a wild bird and legal game!

It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground." |

Re:WOW! its not hard to call in a domesticated turkey. And Why would you shoot a farm bird, especially one that isnt raised for its meat. Its just a comment, dont need to get all upset about it. |
|
Re:I agree with you Dirty, some people get a user ID just to start trouble. I don't even know why you typed that garbage. Congrats to you bowtech on a great trophy. As for you happytrails maybe you should hit the dusty trail. |
|
Re: |
|
Re:Happytrails why don't you just hit those trails and leave everyone else alone. If my Bourbon reds were out running around with the wild turkey's I would have expected them to get shot too. Turkey's escape and wander off afterwards. Mine stuck around without being penned up. Nice bird and don't let anybody tell you different. |
|
Re:I wasnt starting trouble. i just wouldnt go out and shoot someones livestock. make sure you talk to the farmers and ranchers. it was just a comment and its jerks like you guys that wont give it up. I never said it wasnt a nice bird or a bad bird. so when your done with little comments of being in a circle jerk, think about the big circle jerk you guys are creating just by your comments. enough is enough. get on with life, and yes i do congratulate her for gettin a "white" turkey, just wouldnt have been my choice. so as i move on with my life i hope you guys do to.Congrates again to the lady who did shoot it, my hats off to a women who loves to hunt! |

Re:If it's running around with wild turkeys, it's FAIR GAME as far as I'm concerned. Wild turkeys spend so much time hanging around farm yards I'm sure a ton of them have a little domestic blood in them. If I'm out hunting wild turkeys and I see a royal palm hanging out with any birds I'm hunting, he automatically goes to the top of my hit list just for being the odd ball, sort of like how it is with a non typical buck in an area I'm hunting. If it's someone's livestock, that someone did a crappy job of keeping it penned up. I guess it falls under the category of a feral animal to me. I will admit I would stop short of shooting a cow or a horse or a dog, but not a white turkey running around with a flock of wild ones that I'm hunting. |

Re:Happytrail, if you would pay attention he said that they didn't call that bird in. And I have heard from a couple of different people about that bird being a target by numorous hunters for at least the last couple years. It's not livesock! Keep your narrow minded opinions to yourself. Great bird Bowtech |

Re:Ok, thank you to you all on the NICE comments..........There is know way in He** i would ever shoot, unless i knew for sure what i was shooting at, and NO i did not call it in.Yes the bird i shot was with all wild turkeys for a couple years now- so hmmmmmmm yup its a wild bird!!!!! yeah me!!!!!! So now HAPPYTRAILS-you have all the facts from the one that shot that wonderful WILD turkey, you may put your comments in and maybe know what you are taling about! Thanks- I was pretty damn excited that after a few years of guys trying to get this WILD bird, that i was the one to get it!! |

Re:WOW, I just read the comments and all I can say is WOW some of you need to get a life of your own. Nice bird, congrads to the huntress. |

Re:That is going to be an amazing mount! Wow that is a beautiful trophy! Congrats! |
|
Re:I would have shot it in a heartbeat ,as I for sure would have thought it was an albino turkey. It is in fact a very rare bird so alot of us have not seen one, even if it wasn't with other turkeys it's fair game in the field. Good job! |
|
Re:I bet they are tough to hunt in the winter!!

Re:About 7 years ago we got a white one (not albino) that was with a whole flock of wild turkeys. Guess what, it could fly just like the black ones. Domestic can't do that. Anyway, from what I understand, G and F allows you to "cull" white birds from the wild. That's a cool bird. Congrats. |
|
Re:This is a true story although it may sound a little far fetched. This summer i was at Lake Ashtabula fishing and on the way home i saw a flock of turkeys about a hundred yards off the road next to a shelter belt. There were about seven to eight turkeys in this flock and half of them were white. I couldn't believe it because i have never seen a white turkey in the wild and i didn't know if they were farm raised or what not but there were no fences to keep them in anywhere and i did not see a farm anywhere nearby. So yes its a possiblity that they were farm raised but they were also in the wild and i would not have thought twice about shooting one. Congrats on the turkey for it is a true beauty. |

Re:http://www.fishingbuddy.com/royal_palm_turkey the reason i wouldnt shoot it is its a very endangered bird. leave them alone, to enjoy. Now on with your lifes. i have never seen so many people get upset. Get over it!!it was just a comment. If your gonna sit in front of your computer all day and wright comments on something that could have ended by ignoring it, you should maybe get a life. Now can you move on with your life? |

Re:"Along with the decline of most heritage turkey breeds after the adoption of the Broad Breasted White by the turkey industry, Royal Palms are a very endangered breed today. The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy categorizes the breed as critical on its watchlist, the highest priority of conservation. It is also included in Slow Food USA's Ark of Taste, a catalog of heritage foods in danger of extinction." Not only does it look like the turkey breeding industry is the reason some of these ornamental breeds of turkeys are down in numbers, but seriously...A breed of domestic turkey isn't exactly what I would consider an endangered species to be concerned with even if there was only one left. That sounds about as important to me as if white lab mice with pink eyes all of a sudden were on the decline...because brown lab mice were taking over. Any Royal Palms in my neck of the woods are going to have a royal problem, especially a nice big gobbler like this one. |

Re:I also shot a white hen last fall. Picutres are on my profile. I got a lot of grief about it being domestic but we've seen this turkey for the last 5 yrs and nobody raises domestics ANYWHERE around here. I wasn't sure if mine was albino or just a mutation. I agree with other posts... leave your opinion to yourself.. I could care less if anybody thinks they are domestic . Guess they are just jealous they can't find one themselves.
Sometimes I aim to please, but mostly I just shoot to kill ! |

Re:This is my first look at this site. First, I must say the bird is beautiful and will make a wonderful mount that anyone should be proud of. Secondly, it does look like a Royal Palm, but if it has been with a wild flock I doubt any farmer was watching or caring for it.
What saddens me are some of the comments. I was going to set my 15 year old daughter up on this site as she has done very well in her 5 year hunting career (she has 4 turkeys to her credit), but I do think we could be more polite in our discussion. Please look at some of the comments and think about how non or anti-hunters may view them - or other parents hoping to find a constructive educational website for their daughter, or guys for a wife or girl friend that they are trying to get involved in hunting. My family has been hunting in North Dakota since the 1910's and it has enriched our lives and relationships (and kept us well fed) and that is what people need to see and hear about. Putting the Second Ammendment first - it protects ALL the other Ammendments!

Re:I think its a great trophy. I don't care what kind of bird it is, anytime you only have one of them running around and everybody is after it, then it makes the hunt even more exciting. Thats makes it even better that The Mrs. was able to bag it, that should give her bragging rights for a long time haha. |
