I seen this issue pop up on the mileage thread and when i took my truck to trade it in i about punched the salesman then puked on him when they told me that they would give me 4K below NADA trade-in. The dealer (SP)i bought the truck from promised me in january when i bought it, that within a year of buying it i would get almost all my money back out of it if on trade (I knew i'd lose about 2grand) if they came out with the 6.2 6spd 3.73 max package in a halfton x-cab.(because these jokers don't know what GM is gonna make available for options etc. had one car salesman tell me they dont have that option available 10 minutes after i just drove one in august) haha jokes on me.
Two Bismarck dealers lost my buisness I'd rather drive 500 miles buy it somewhere else and then let your guys do all the warranty work. I'd think when a truck NADA average retail is 29900, high trade is 25600, average trade is 24500 that you could at least get 25000 out of it trade wise, I would have bought a new one that day twice now if i could get close to that number. So I will just get a custom tune, exhaust, and intake to get above 400hp and some wheels and keep it for 10 years, or until they put a diesel in the halftons.

I was looking at a used truck a few days ago. The dealer price was $200 above NADA high retail book due to low miles, and they offered me about $600 below good book on my SUV (also low mileage). They get you both ways....Guess I will keep my SUV until she dies.

I had a similar experience with a dealer in Grand Forks. Went to buy the wife a mustang for her graduation surprise (college, again) and they wanted to give us $3800 below book price on her Hyandi. I told them to shove it. Went to Fargo a couple weeks later and drove by a Ford, they had the same stang with the same price. I said what the heck and rolled on in. Met a salesman, told him which car we wanted and didn't need a test drive or anything, just give me a trade in value. Are you ready for this....it was nearly $4000 higher than the dealer in Grand Forks!!!! I called the dealer in GF and told them I was putting this deal together in Fargo as we spoke and made one last offer, more to see what they would say, and they laughed at me, thinking I was BS'ing them!

Well I picked up her Califonia Special Mustang the next week in Fargo and will NEVER consider the Grand Forks dealer AGAIN!!!!!

They did call me up some time later trying to "earn" my business and I told them to have a mgr call me and we would talk, someone did indeed call me back and after explaining everything to them, I was told some one from upper management would call me back, hmmmm still waiting on that call!!!!!!!!!

Shop around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya you'd think buying a new vehicle would be a fun experience...but I absolutely hate it. I've done business with 3 of the major car dealers in Bis/Man and I don't have a good thing to say about any of them. Next vehicle will probably be bought else where.
The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the decendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter.- Finn Aagard

Guys, I don't like threads that get into this type of thing.  If folks want to know who they had a bad expierence with I'd rather they PM each other.

Just too much "liability" with these type of threads because it could be heresay (please note I am not implying people are lying).  You get what I mean.  It would be easy for people to do.  Lets just not name direct names if we can at all.

So thanks for understanding.

I was actually suprised to the good side when I went to trade in my last pickup for the current one.(I traded a 2007 GMC ext cab for a 2009 GMC ext cab)    Before I went in to deal I checked all the NADA and Kelly values and what new and used pickups were going for in the area.  I sat down with the guy expecting a battle of wits and he said here is what it books for(trade in value) and here is what we are going to give you for it.(which was $1000 more than book)  My initial thought was the new pickup price must be high to make up for it, but it was as low as any other dealer in the area.  I expected a fight and all I had to do was sign my name with satisfaction.  I know the next time will probably be a joust, but sometimes it goes well folks.  I was shopping in Grand Forks and the next time I trade I will look for the same guy.

I am not saying they are all bad. We bought my wife a vehicle from the same dealer I was talking about in my earlier post and got a great deal on the trade and the new vehicle.

Gentlemen, its all about educating yourself about the product you are looking at buying, I personally never trade ,I sell them outright from my home , I can guarantee you I know more about the vehicle I am looking at buying then the person trying to sell it to me , and more about the financing .

When I go in for  a new vehicle , I know exactly what I will pay , and I never allow any of them to call me at home .  You either control the deal or you dont

If you want a good deal on a new or used pickup you certainly aren't going to get it in ND right now.  With the oil boom the dealers have gone out of their minds.  Get 500-750 miles away and you can get a hell of a deal.

I guess it all depends on the day of the week...we had a similar experience however it was complete opposite...Fargo was ridiculously low on the trade-in and GF was above book….probably to make up for the lemon Walynut traded in…

I got a hell of a deal in, of all places, Devils Lake.  I looked at upgrading for several years, traveling all over the state and did not find a single dealer that was not way above NADA.  To my shock, I went into Market Place Ford expecting the same.  Hell, next day I drove out of there with an F250 diesel, extremely low miles, not a scratch on it, I had a bed liner sprayed in.  This truck has all the bells n whistles for towing and comfort.  Looks and drives like it is brand new.  It's a 2005.  Get this.... 3K LOWER than book!  I'm still in shock.  If you go there, tell Dennis (awesome salesman) that John W says Hi!

I guess ya just gotta know where to look.

Check out the dealer up in Langdon. They are a smaller dealer but they have some GORGEOUS pickups go through that place. Lots of late model pickups get traded up there. I've bought 2 vehicles from them, they beat LAKE in Devils pretty good on like for like vehicles.  Seems like the smaller dealerships are a little more willing to deal with a person than a large dealership in GF or Fargo. ......Just my 2 cents..... Buy American!
