The lake was declared frozen over January 18th, two days past the previous record for a late freeze up.

Where do you find the info for this? Almost the entire lake was open on saturday and sunday, dad and uncle flew over/around it for about an hour, crazy to think 2 or 3 cold days would do her in!

-17 degrees tends to freeze the lake.. and when temps dont get above the BIG DONUT..during the day...  should be good solid ice.. and IS in spots that are   froze.. I would bet that there is prolly close to 18-19 inches out west.. it was 14 on Sunday

I'd heard that they consider it frozen when it freezes at the intake, I doubt the main lake is froze over yet. Anyone got a visual?

I received an email from the Corps in Riverdale that they had declared the lake frozen January 18th.   I was up there Sunday and no ice was visible.  I would have thought that the wind alone would keep it open.

even with -17, to freeze the entire surface over.... would still take a matter of at least a week, if not 2 to freeze it all over. As for freeze over like others stated, i guess it goes with the intake, which I did not know. Still gonna take another week at least with temps like this to get the main froze over.  I'll ask the old man later today, he will be up in the area today checking it out.
