As you know taking a year off.  Gotta save cash.  Fishing tourneys are money pits if you take them serious and do not win or at the minimum get your money back.

Good luck to all those that fish!  Be interesting to see how she fishes.  Thinking tough bite.

Going to skip it this year too. My partner has to work, so I'll be attending Jedi 2 instead next week.

We're in it but I think we'll get clobbered, never had such a tough/weird bite in the midlake as this summer. There are some darn good fish in the system thou, I think a couple teams will bring in some big weights this time around.

"When we step into the outdoors, we have the privilege of standing in the presence of God through the power and majesty of His creation. That makes hunting more than a sport or a hobby. It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

Gotta take that request to the DWC crew.  They have to have the results ready for publishing just like any other tourney.

One of the nice features of the DWC is the tournament committee usually prints copies of the results and makes them available to the audience and participants right after the awards ceremony.  Your best bet for early results would be to attend the weigh-in or have someone you know who will be there get you a copy.  It would be very easy with a smartphone to have that person text/email you a few pictures with the results, and then wait for full results to be posted on the Beulah website the following week.

Three to four pounders maybe which are the 2005 year class are not what I call pigs...or ha ha, maybe we should since that's about as big as they get in the lake now.  The NDGF put out a age class breakdown of their survey samples and the older fish which would be the pigs are very few and far between.  Can you catch one?  Yeah, if you are lucky.  180 teams with a field of good fisherman (the top half of the 180 teams) caught a 6.30 pound fish as the biggest fish.  Maybe a 25 incher or 26 incher?  Not good in my opinion but Sakakawea has long been declining as a pig factory.  The lake is losing its good structure, we have poor natural reproduction through most of the lake unless conditions are absolutely right and we have some pretty good fishing pressure.  Plus, we have warmer water than the water of north so fish have a higher mortality rate naturally and slower growth rate.

But the 15 to 22 inch fishing is always pretty good (well it will be in 2014).  Depends on how long the 2005 year class can hold out getting pounded on to see how many 24 and above fish we have.  I suspect a few but not a very good population to support a pig factory.

Tis the life of a reservoir that gone through a drought of 8 years.  It whooped some butt.  And I think a little stocking may have helped keep more year classes but that's a dead horse.  I'm just glad it is over.

I don't know if they give out day 2 prints in quick fashion.  Lots going on but I will check.  I'll be a cheerleader so I'll have time to investigate that this year.  Normally it is stand around and wait for the results show and then it is tear down camp and hit the road.

To ride on Tim's dead horse --- you maintain stocking in this puppy regardless what the water level is.   Were going to deal with low water in the future -- no doubt about it.     I dont buy the no forage -- stunted fish - who cares --- they have a body system that shuts em down -- now we could use those stunted fish to eat the forage that supposedly didnt exist --- PERCH.
Stay thirsty my friends

Are you sure warmer water equals slower growth rate?  When I fly up north in Canada to fish, they all tell me up there that the reason the fish rarely get above 3 pounds in many lakes that far north is because the water stays so cold.....?  I will do some investigating, but thats the opposite that I've been told.

Cool water species require cool, but not cold water for survival and growth. These species can survive in warmer water than the previously discussed coldwater species, but still must be in water that is in the 60's and 70's degree range Fahrenheit for growth. Some commonly sought after cool water species are Walleye Pike or Walleye for short, and Muskellunge or Musky for short (as seen in the pictures below). Cool water species require slightly less oxygen for survival and growth than the coldwater species. Minimal levels of dissolved oxygen for cool water species is 4 PPM and lethal levels are around 2 PPM.

Yes, I am incorrect in the growth rate thing.  I meant survival.  I needed to proofread better.
