I have talked to a couple farmers that said they got $36 per acre for new  CRP enrollment. Anyone else heard anything on this?
Would be great for wildlife in the state.

I haven't done any reading nor talked with anyone so I'm not sure.  I do know the program was able to enroll and re-enroll some acres.  That's always a step in the right direction.

Farnorth?  Bowhunter?  You guys hear?

I think some of the reason the program ran out of money before was seeing CRP acres over in the Red River Valley on some of the best farm land you will ever find.

Yeah but most I know since mid September have been cutting durum worth less than a $1.50.

But yeah, to rent farm land you can get 35 to 60 bucks an acre.  Farmers set up correctly can get 200 to 250 out of an acre.  Of course, they put in about 180 to 200 an acre to get that return.  Man, I don't envy dealing with mother nature.

If I remember correctly in some cases there is a signing bonus paid initially. Land rents are way over CRP rates in most places. If CRP rates raise to make thisprogram more attractive, land rents soon follow. As was said commodity prices willdetermine the enrollment. Along with rules regarding the contract. Wether anyone wants to believe it or not it will take a significant amount of money for some to put their landback in CRP in some areas simply because of how changes to the program have effected the flexability of this program.

I think the CRP depends on the area and soil type,  CRP for me would have been about $90/ acre.  That is in the SE part of the state.

Yes,    soil type and location are big factors.   I was happy to get $ 35 per acre 6 years ago .  Land rent was less than that in this area .

Wow, that is a lot of money changing hands for people doing absolutely nothing.  I'm not sure I like the idea of paying someone to idle perfectly good grazing/forage land.

I read an article the other day about a guy who put his land into a "grassland easement".  In return, they paid him for the native grass seed, and he was able to graze/hay his land however he saw fit.  To me, something like that makes more sense.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

gg, there was a program in the 60's. Where use could put crop land into grazing and hay it.There was a fence allotment ect, I think we got$6.00 per acre per year( cash rent was about $12.00).We put the whole farm into grass, except for 160 acres, which we kept out to grow feed grain and siliage.Worked out great, the old man(46yrs,) went to work for,US Wildlife Service.US boys made hay,and worked the cattle.Farming now is about FARMING THE GOV.If the USDA kicks you out of thier progams, there is not a bank in the country that will touch you,you are out of luck, just sell out.
