Contact Senators in Regards to HB1017

Fellow hunters and anglers, please get involved in regards to HB1017 as our input can make a positive difference in regards to habitat and hunting opportunities within this state.

NOW is one of those times when we, individually, can make a difference.  I've sent you some information previously on HB1017 the Supplemental Appropriation for the Game and Fish Department which originally seemed to be pretty straight forward and without conflict.  It passed the House and moved to the Senate.  Part of this bill was $800,000 for land acquisition supported by the Game and Fish and the Governor.  A amendment was initiated in the Senate Appropriations Committee to remove this $800,000.  Much of the discussion goes on in various Committee's without much prior notice so it is hard for Duaine, our Lobbyist, and even the Game and Fish Department to always follow who all is behind this.
 
We all need to let our Senators know how we feel on this Bill.  If you want to ensure that this Land Purchase is put back into HB1017 tell your Senator that you want them to vote NO on 1017 unless the land purchase portion of the Capital Assets is re-enstated.    Of particular interest are those Senators who sit on the Appropriations or Natural Resources Committee.  Sen. Lyson, Dist 1, Williston is the Chair of Natural Resources and is supposedly on the fence.  Other Senators to focus on are Sen Gindberg, Fargo, District 41 and Sen Fischer, Fargo, District 46.  You can find all the Senators, the Committee's they sit on and all their contact information including emails at www.legis.nd.gov/assembly/61-2009/senate/standing-comm/
 
There has been some rhetoric thrown around that not all this land is open to the public which is not true.  All Game and Fish land that is owned or leased (approx 195,000 acres or less than 0.5% of all ND land) is open to public hunting.   Be sure to point this out to your Senator.
 
TAKE THE TIME TO SEND A MESSAGE TO YOUR SENATOR.  LET YOUR FRIENDS AND FELLOW HUNTERS AND FISHERMEN KNOW.  DON'T DELAY THEY ARE DECIDING THIS RIGHT NOW.

1017 is scheduled for a vote today. It can be amended from the senate floor to reinstate the public land acquisition but that won't happen unless sportsmen call NOW.
