Typical location: North America
Habitat: The red fox can easily adapt to cities or areas where there are large numbers of people. They are often noted to adapt well to human presence. Red foxes are nocturnal and are the most active at night. They are territorial animals that spend the summers alone and will pair up in the winter for breeding. Their territory area ranges depending on the food abundance. The size of the territory can be between 4-20 miles.
Reproduction: Breeding takes place between December and April and the size of the litter can range between 5-13 kits. In the fall of the same year the young foxes will go out and claim their own territories.
Size: Red foxes are typically smaller than other animals in their family such as dogs and wolves. The weight can range depending on the breed. Typical weight ranges are between 10-30 pounds and length is between 18-36 inches.
Description: The color is typically red-rust with a white belly. The tips of their ears are black along with their legs and they have a bushy tail with a white tip.
Habits: Red fox typically hunt alone and will eat small portions due to their small stomach size. They will eat berries, insects, birds, rodents, rabbits, eggs and fish.
Hunting & Trapping Red Fox: Often fox will be hunted with calls such as the distressed rabbit call. The best caliber is something small such as a 22, 22-250, etc. Trapping and snaring are also used frequently and a commonly used trap is the dirt hole set.
