Backpacking Checklist




Hiking/Backpack Checklist
When packing your backpack, remember to pack like items together, which will save you time when looking for items for quick findings.
The Basics
__Backpack (3,000 to 5,000 cubic inches)
__Sleeping bag (rated to 20 to 50F)
__Sleeping pad
__Two person tent/tarp
 
 
Clothing
__Wool Socks
__Sock liners
__Underwear
__Synthetic/wicking t-shirt
__Rain/wind jacket & pants
__Bandanna
__Synthetic shorts or convertible pants
__Sandals & fleece cocks or lightweight camp shoes
__Hiking boots
__Wool or fleece jacket or vest (if warmer)
__Wool or fleece gloves or mittens
__Gaiters
 
Eating & Drinking
__Water purification (filter, iodine, bleach)
__Stove & Fuel
__Wind screen (block stove flame, usually       aluminum foil)
__Pot/Pan with lid
__Cup or mug
__2 one-liter water bottles
__Multi-tool or utility knife
__Lightweight bowl and spoon
__Scraper for cleaning pot
__Waterproof matches and lighter
 
 
Accessories
__Trail map or guidebook
__ GPS or compass
__Toilet paper in Ziploc Bag
__Plastic potty trowel
__Headlamp
__Lip balm
__Sunscreen
__Extra Ziploc/trash bags
__Hand sanitizer
__Toothbrush and toothpastes
__Rain cover or garbage bag
__Bear-bagging cord
__First-aid kit (Band-aids, aspirin, antiseptic wipes, poison ivy treatment, moleskin, tweezers)
__ Snake Bite Kit
__ Contact Lense accessories and/or glasses

A few more items:

GPS or a compass, even if you do not really know how to use compass it can keep you going in a relatively straight line rather than circling.

Snake bite kit.

I would actually list Food on the checklist......things not on list have been forgotten (!)

Contact Lens supplies (if needed or wanted)

If you do go to bear country bag EVERYTHING with a scent or that is salty.  Bears will go after toothpaste, deoderant, shampoo, contact solution (it is salty), foot powder etc.  And remember they happily climb trees and will go WAY out on a limb for that "pic-i-nic basket, BooBoo"!
Putting the Second Ammendment first - it protects ALL the other Ammendments!
