Photo Description:
I first had seen him a few times while bow hunting in 2008.  Unfortunately I would not have the Any Antlered tag for the approaching 2008 rifle season.  With a heavy snow dump on opening day of 2008, I hoped his territory would be inaccessible to hunting pressure and therefore he would survive.  I actively bow hunted and scouted his territory for seven weeks in 2009, while never spotting him.  Giving his hood a two week rest prior to the rifle opener, I carefully spotted and covered his turf
on opening day.  After hoofing 3.5 miles, I had another 1.5 mile walk back to the vehicle.  There was one final hideaway I had in mind.  Late that afternoon I spotted him with a doe.  He stood up and gave me a partial frontal view but with a poor sight window.  I expected him to step towards the doe and show a broadside view, which at that very moment he did, so I sent 100 grains his way through the .243.  Weeks of hard work and patience paid off with a 135 yard shot.  26 inches wide by 17 inches tall.  You got to love fair chase open range hunting on a combination of private and public lands.
